A very rare volume it is a collection of the works of Washington Irving re-published by J.B. Lippincott Company in 1886.  It is beautifully assembled with gilded edge pages and a distinctive string board binding.  The book is comprised of four sections:

The book totals 187 pages for the four sections and contains 37 beautiful engravings.

The book is in excellent condition for this type of volume, with four of the five strings of the string board binding still intact.  There are no creases, tears, or writing within and there is no brittleness or yellowing of the high quality paper used in the publication.  Generously and beautifully gilded this publication was clearly meant to be an homage to the author and a prized heirloom for the owner.

The book measures 6 3/16 by 8 1/8 inches.
