1977 Press Photo Mrs. Sophie Werling at her Easter bunny business at D.H. Holmes
This is an original press photo. Bunny business at D.H. Holmes with Mrs. Sophie Werling - Along with a bed (of real straw, yet) holding all-sugar and real eggs, dyed a deep rust color with red onion skin. You bought the diminutive rabbits with 1/4-inch thick hollow bodies supporting rock-solid heads at Reiss Candy Company on Frenchmen Street, and little girls saved the neck ribbons tied with little bells to make a bracelet later. Then as now bunnies were the mainstay of Easter baskets, only the containers were woven paper instead of straw. In fact, you didn't need a basket at all; less bountiful bunnies begged boxes from local shoe stores. Little girls got the lagniappe of a crisp new hair ribbon for Easter Sunday church. But the whole pretty package was look-don't touch until after Mass, or else you'd break your Communion fast. Photo measures 10 x 8.25 inches. Photo is dated 4-10-1977.
