Ornate Antique Brass August Knecht Victorian Sewing Scissors and Letter Opener Set with Scabbard -

Dimensions are ; Scissors - 7 3/4" in length , Letter opener - 9 9/16" in length , 'Scabbard' - 7 11/16" in length , 3/4" to 1 1/8" in tapering width. Manufacturer is August Knecht , Stahl und Metallwarenfabrik Co. of Germany. Material is brass and steel This set of sewing scissors and letter opener was made in Germany by the August Knecht Stahl und Metallwarenfabrik Co of Solingen , officially founded in 1825 but which traces its roots back to 1684. August Knecht and Carl Knecht were listed as owners and specialized in the manufacture of knives , scissors , straight razors , shaving equipment , letter openers and engraving tools. This ornate set was sold and is marked with the logo of Marshall Field & Co of Chicago. It is in wonderful condition and each element is heavily decorated with mounted knights , ladies , baroque dolphins and a variety of scroll work and volutes. The scissors work beautifully and there are no missing or damaged elements. A great objet which is still functional and useful.
