Item Description: I am pleased to offer this original Japanese army officers Samurai sword from World War 2. The blade represents the opportunity to own a katana from the WW2 swordsmith Kaneharu in naval Kai Gunto mounts. The blade and the mountings are in Near MINT condition. It is a healthy sword and has a blade length of 25.75 inches (65cm). The hada is a tight and visible ko-itame. The hamon is a Seki-style gunome midare hamon that is present the length of the blade, ending in a maru boshi. The tang is signed Seki ju Mori Kaneharu. Kaneharu was a member of the well-known Seki school that made many war era swords.

The mountings are naval version Kai Gunto and are in Near MINT condition. The tsuka is silk-cord wrapped with cherry blossom menuki. The wrapping is tight with little to no fraying. The tsuba is solid black with four accompanying metal seppa. The saya (scabbard) is wood lacquered black with a leather weathering cover cover. The leather cover shows just a few areas of missing finish, retaining roughly 95-97% original finish. The blade is in Near MINT condition. There are no nicks, little to no rust, and some just some scattered small scratches along the blades length. There are no major flaws like hagire.

Given the age and condition, I think this sword would be an excellent addition for a collector of Japanese swords or WWII militaria.
