Original poster of the world chess championship that took place in Seville, Spain in October 1987.

This poster is based on a drawing found in a medival book called " The Book of Chess Games, Dice and Tables" made by the former King Alfonso X of Castille "The Wise" in the XIII century. In addition to this. Medieval chess was conceived as a game of strategy and skill. In the medieval period it was used to sharpen the tactical abilites of knights and was seen as one of seven knightly accomplishments.

The Church, however, explicitly forbade the playing of chess by members of the clergy but gradually relaxed its view by about 1200. Men and women also played chess together and it became associated with flirtation and the batte of the sexes in medieval love poetry.

On the other side, the chess championship in Seville had the purpose of promoting the universal exposition of this city that took place years later in 1992.

The Championship was played between Anatoly Karpov and Garry Kasparov in Seville from October 12 to December 19, 1987. Before the 24th game, Kasparov was down 12–11, but in the 24th game, Kasparov made a comeback by using the English Opening to win the final game to retain his title.
