Wizards of the Coast periodically sends "white-back" versions of its cards to the artists, called Artist Proofs - somewhat of a misnomer. Even if there are errors, Wizards typically releases the sets before the artists have a chance to "proof" them! So, the major purpose is to create a very rare card that the artist can use as he or she sees fit! How rare? Only 50 or 100 of each card is printed with a white back, depending on the Set! This is a lot rarer than the rarest playable card or foil - only one of the Original Artworks from which all the cards are created is rarer. Even a print from the artist can be sold in larger quantities - I have seen some prints listed as being from a run of 1000! And there may be more than one run!
This complete set of Kev's Proofs from the Fifth Edition Set consists of Verduran Enchantress and Keldon Warlord - a Rare and an Uncommon. Even though all Proofs from a given Set are equally rare, artists tell me that Proofs based on Rare and Uncommon play cards go faster, so get these while you can! And, since I got them directly from the artist, you can be sure they are authentic!
