When you see this ashtray, you immediately recognize its speckled brown material as bakelite– the same stuff used in radio casings  and other household items before the Second World War and for a couple years after. This example comes in two parts. Its upper part can be lifted slightly to allow ashes to fall into the interior. It removes entirely to empty accumulated ashes into the trash. It survives in good undamaged condition. The little mound in the center serves to snuff out a cigarette, and it works as a pipe knocker as well.
