Circa 1900s to 1910s celluloid photo button of Walton Street in Port Hope, Ontario, Canada. This is the first street scene in a large celluloid photo button I have seen.

Port Hope is a municipality in Southern Ontario, Canada, approximately 68 miles east of Toronto and about 99 miles west of Kingston. It is located at the mouth of the Ganaraska River on the north shore of Lake Ontario, in the west end of Northumberland County.

  • * CONDITION: Overall Very Good but with some light blue discoloration in the sky area.

Full disclosure: While the discoloration almost looks natural and original to the photo and doesn't overly distract, the truth is that it was caused by me. The person I acquired this from had a large price sticker at the top center of the button. Upon my attempt to remove it, it left sticky residue and some sticker paper. I put a few drops of "Goo-Gone" adhesive removal on the area to remove the rest of the sticker residue. Normally that would take care of it without issue but there was a small half inch crack in the celluloid at the top center edge which I didn't see. It is the only crack on the entire periphery of the button. Just my luck it would happen to be in that location as some of the adhesive removal fluid dripped into the crack and caused the discoloration as seen. Funny, as I only put 4-5 drops on the top surface and what little seeped into the crack caused about 3 1/2 inches of discoloration. Thankfully the vast majority of it is in the sky area. There's still a bit of residue remaining as I wiped off & cleaned the fluid as soon as I saw the discoloration starting. My apologies for not being more conscientious.

The light area at the far right center edge on the building is simply glare from light reflection when I took the photo.
