TEMPLE OF HEAVEN. 天壇. Peking Art Series III. Beijing, n.d. 1915/16? 1 p. text. 27 tipped-in collotype plates. 23x29 cm. Chinese style binding, with decorative cover. Stitched with cord.

Sepia photographs of the Temple of Heaven, its architecture, environs and rituals. Of particular historical interest as numbers 19 to 26 show Yuan Shikai performing a sacrificial ceremony at the Altar of Heaven on 23rd December 1913. Published by John D. Zumbrun, who was the official photographer at above ceremony. The front cover has detached and has wear and loss. Much loss to the cover of the spine. The cord holding the plates together is intact as is the back cover. Internally, generally fine. Very rare. Priced accordingly.
