Pachypodium succulentum is a genus of 13 species of above-ground tuberous plants (=caudex) to shrubs and trees from Southern Africa. The genus belongs to the family Apocynaceae, a family that mainly includes tropical plants, but also includes the native periwinkle and the oleander. All plants in this family contain milky sap. Pachypodiums are succulent plants that store water in their stem for the dry period. They occur in two separate areas. One area is located in the south-west of South Africa, Namibia and Angola (with 4 species), the other area is the island of Madagascar (with 9 species). All species bear thorns and single leaves at the growing tips during the growing season. These leaves fall off during drought periods. The plants bear white, yellow, orange or red flowers at the tips. Our Pachypodium is in a 20 cm pot.
