When I was a kid, for many of us the first kit was a Scientific model.  Known as "hollow logs", they featured carved fuselage and preshaped wings.  They were so simple to build, that the box advertised "no tools needed".  Most were not great flyers, but were much better than the small and heavy plastic models at the time.  Most models had around an 18" wingspan and could be powered by a range of .049 engines.

This kit builds a Boeing P-26A which was one of the rarest of the Scientific line.  The box shows some wear but is intact thanks to a bit of tape.  The kit is complete, but the decal sheet is tightly rolled up.  It should be useable if carefully unrolled.
