Description

Four rare early southern financial legal documents concerning the John Willis family:  First Document; 1834  John Willis to Jared Collins detailing expenses and sundries. Second document; John Willis to Randolph Webb 1835 La Grange,Tn 5th of March 1835. Third Document: Stampless letter to Martha P.Willis from Robert Paine from La Grange College,Alabama 1836 concerning accounting and social engagements. Fourth document: 1824 document titled to; Burnham,Evans & Gibson concerning settelement of damages.



*The Willis house later became the headquarters for Confederate General John C.Pemberton during the Civil War and the battle of Vicksburg.

* John Willis born June 30th 1819 and grew up to become a captain of the Vicksburg Southrons which became Company C of the 1st Mississippi Rifles,and served under Jefferson Davis in the Mexican War from 1846-1847.
