Vintage Postcard of Aira Force, Ullswater, depicting one of the most visited Lake District waterfalls off the banks of Ullswater - a cascade of 80' into a deep narrow glen, with viewing possible from either the top or bottom.

The 'Force' was the inspiration for William Wordsworth's poem 'The Somnambulist' in 1833 in which he references Aira Force. Another of his poems, 'Airey Force Valley' also draws its inspiration from the waterfall. [Note the different spelling of Aira and Airey - one and the same place]

Signed by the artist with his characteristic red intertwined initials 'EL' the scene is after the original painting by Edgar Longstaffe (1852-1933), a well-known English landscaper of the Victorian era.

Pre-printed description of Airey Force on reverse of card.
