1954 Press Photo Newsmap shows the air-sea rescue missions in Atlantic Ocean
Atlantic Ocean- One of the greatest air-sea rescue missions in history scoured a 120-mile wide stretch of the Atlantic Ocean (dotted line) from Patuxent, Maryland (1) to the Azores (2) 11/1 in search of a Navy Super-Constellation presumed to have crashed with 42 persons aboard. The plane, which was en route from Patuxent to Port Lyautey in North Africa, carried 21 passengers and 21 crew members. Among the former were four women and five children. Photo measures 9 x 5 inches. Photo Is dated 1954.
