1862 Civil War cover, with Nov. 10, 1862 dated SAN FRANCISCO/CAL double-circle and #68 10c green tied by grid cancel, addressed to Gen. E. O.C. Ord, U.S.A., at Carlisle, PA, forwarded to him at Cincinnati, and forwarded again to Nashville, Tenn., with Nov. 15 dated CARLISLE/PA double-circle and Dec. 22 dated CINCINNATI/O. double-circle, struck when the cover was forwarded, and with black FORWARDED in oval, and DUE/3 in circle, with manuscript "3" and total rate due for twice forwarding of "6" cents. 

Addressed to Gen. Edward O.C. Ord, (1818-1883), An 1839 West Point graduate (and roommate of William T. Sherman), he fought in the 2nd Seminole War in Florida. A Major General during the Civil War, he commanded the XIII and XVIII Corps, and was in command of the Army of the James during the Appomattox campaign, and was present in the McLean House when Lee surrendered to Grant. After the war, he commanded the Dept. of Arkansas, (1868-1871), the Department of the Platte, (1871-1875), and the Dept. of Texas, from 1875 until his retirement in 1881.

A scarce usage of #68 10c on a twice forwarded cover to a Civil War General of note.
