Overlord” is a novel written by Kugane Maruyama. The novel has been published since 2012 and is still being serialized. It was originally published as a web version, and some revisions were made to the storyline and other aspects of the story when the novel version was published. The manga version contains up to 9 volumes of the original work, and was completed in 19 volumes.

The story is set in a fantasy world of swords and magic, and depicts the relationship between the local humans and other races from the perspective of the “Demon King,” who possesses overwhelming power. It is a work with elements of dark fantasy, in which the demon king sometimes becomes a friend and at other times mercilessly overruns the world.

Synopsis.

The year is 2138 in Japan. Yggdrasil,” which has caused a huge boom all over the world, is about to end its service. Satoru Suzuki (Momonga), who had been immersed in Yggdrasil, logs on to the service with regret, but his friends who had been running the guild together do not appear except for Helohero, and Momonga waits alone for the end of the service. Ainz's true goal was to reunite with his friends who might be somewhere else by roaring the fame of “Ainz Wool Gown,” while exploring the strongmen and technology lurking in the unknown other world and the other players hidden in the background.
