Stokers
in No.1 Dress.
The
Armoured Cruiser, H.M.S. "Natal" was destroyed in an explosion
on 30th December, 1915. Sadly, it is very likely that these men
were present during this catastrophic event.
A
series of explosions tore through the ship as she lay at anchor in
Cromarty Firth with her squadron. Within five minutes she had capsized.
Over 400 lives were lost. The official report gave an explosion of
faulty cordite as the likely cause, but speculation of German sabotage
still persists to this day.
Clear
and well-focused, enabling easy identification of known faces for those
researching family history.
