Echinocereus Subinermis native to northern Mexico (southern Sonora, western Chihuahua, northern Sinaloa)
 200-1300 meters above sea level.
It grows between logs and rocky slopes in tropical deciduous forests on loamy sandy soils and igneous rocks together with Mammillaria sonorensis, Mammillaria Gueldemanniana, Mammillaria Marksiana Mammillaria Echinocereus ScheerII and Ferocactus Schwarzii. A beautiful bloomer that is not offered much.
