Charles Spencelayh was an English genre painter and portraitist in the Academic style. Spencelayh was born in Rochester in Kent, and first studied at the National Art Training School, South Kensington. He showed his work at the Paris Salon, but most of his exhibitions were in Britain. Many of his paintings depict working life and humble people of the era and he influenced many artists during his life. This is an interesting painting as the gentleman appears to ne making a broom. 


Age- c1900

Size- 17 by 14 inches approx including frame, panel 10 by 8 inches approx.

Medium- Oils on academyboard panel.

Frame- Old wooden frame, some knocks and losses, offered free with the painting.

Condition- Generally very good and clean for its age. Some light craqueleur and some minor uneveness to the panel. 

Signature- Unsigned.
