Flight Lieutenant William Henry Akehurst was born on
29/11/1909 in Aston, Warwickshire, England. It is believed that he enlisted
into the Royal Air Force in the late 1920’s or early 1930’s with the service #
513850.
He qualified for the GSM with clasp Palestine (1936 – 39)
by which time he was a Corporal, further, the 1939 census records him as a RAF
Corporal stationed at Kesteven, Lincolnshire.
He was commissioned into the Technical Branch of the RAF as
a Pilot Officer 30/12/1943. He was still serving as late as 1951.
He died in 1973 in Wrexham, Denbighshire, Wales.
