This is an original press photo. James E. Webb, who was appointed head of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) in 1961 by President John F. Kennedy, will step down as head of U.S. space program next month upon reaching his 62nd birthday. He said he plans "to do a lot of things" he's interested in on his own. He said he isn't quitting over any disagreement on budget cuts for his program, but said Russia leads in space operations and "current programs will not bring parity" for United States efforts.Photo measures 5.25 x 6inches.
