Unusual 1930s Italian 800
Silver Hand-held mirror Powder Compact w Lipstick Case
We think this is a very
un-usual shape for a powder compact and therefore will appeal to collectors of
compacts and similar vanity pieces. It is stamped 800 for the purity of its
silver and a rubbed assay mark. This resembles that used in Italy during the
period 1934 through 1944.
The compact is the shape of
a hand-held dressing table mirror with a heart shape top. The rear cover is ornately
chased with an extravagant leaf and flower tribute. The handle has a similar
theme set with a garnet-coloured spinel. The front has an engraved frame set
with a bevelled mirror. This has a hinge and opens to expose the powder area
with fine fabric screen (no puff). The handle doubles as a lipstick holder with
the “garnet” button sliding up and down a groove to slide lipstick along.

The compact is in excellent vintage condition with
no faults or damage to report. Some light insignificant wear. The photos are
