Very interesting in terms of design is the transparent window on the cap that shows the nib. The particular loading system is called a dropper and is made of ebonite in the Opus 88, a traditional Japanese refill system added to droppers also used in Europe since the 1800s. To charge the pen, unscrew the writing unit and fill the tank with ink using the special pipette included in the package. When everything is tightened again, ink enters the nib by acting on the back of the pen body and opening the valve in the tank. When you have finished writing, the valve closes and the fountain pen is transported in complete safety as the flow is cut off. Therefore, you can place any Opus 88 on a flat surface at extreme pressures/temperatures without risking leaks or ink spills.
