BOB’S RAILROAD UNIFORM BUTTONS TO GO
DESCRIPTION: EXTREMELY RARE MINT POST CIVIL WAR RAILROAD SLEEPING CAR CONDUCTOR.
NOTE: There is a fascinating omission by Mr. VanCourt in VOLUME 1 of this SLEEPING CAR CONDUCTOR 26.5mm BLACK ENAMEL button with a backmark of alternating 14 STARS and 14 dots in an rmdc. He does mention 30/28 as a SLEEPING CAR PORTER around a 12 wh. Passenger coach (note the circled 9 on the coach) made by Scovill in 1867-1869. I can only assume that it would have occupied slot 30/29 which DVC left blank. He states under OTHER COMPANIES that the information on 7 Sleeping car companies came from John H. White’s ”The American Railroad Passenger Car” published in 1978.
The condition is MINT. One of the most stunning buttons I have seen. I would like to see the 30/28 SLEEPING CAR PORTER if anyone has one.
I have also searched through my copy of Warren Tice, DATING BUTTONS and RELICMAN on the Internet for the Backmark. It appears to be 1866-1868.

This 150+ year old button is in PRISTINE UNUSED condition from a Factory ledger sale in the 1960s. The button has NOT been polished. It shows NO signs of wear. The shank is FIRM. A very solid button. I leave any further cleaning preference to the new owner. My photos are part of my description.
