SELLING UNUSUAL AND RARE ITEMS ON EBAY FOR 22 YEARS-QUALITY, NOT QUANTITY! - We acquired these brooder pieces from a local estate where there were many items from 1880's to about 1916. We contacted a well known expert on these pieces, and the following statements were all made by this gentleman. The kerosene burner actually appears to be unused, with no evidence of fuel in the tank and wicks also appear to be unused. The huge, unusually shaped glass chimney is 19 1/2 in. long and 6 1/2 in. across on both ends. The bellows actually has a leather flap over the opening "draw" hole. We now quote - "You have a brooder heater which appears big enough to heat a very large chicken egg brooder. A piece of framework appears to be missing as well as the ''egg keep'' for the eggs. The double wick burner has the chimney with the mica window for ''candling'' the eggs for purity and freshness. Then the glass chimney provided light for the chicken ''keep'' as well as heat, so this was intended for use in cold weather, northern climate, for spring hatching of chicks. The bellows part is a modified bee smoker for GENTLY blowing air through the attached metal cylinder. The two-burner heater portion was undoubtedly made by E.M. Miller using their #3 size burner with two, 1 1/2'' wide wicks. The top part with the bellows was vertical and attached to the missing framework. The bellows would pump air to get a draft going through the entire affair as a straight-forward air draft was not possible with that setup. It is unusually rare and is excellent condition. A small town museum would love it! These old brooder heaters in a complete state are so rare that few people left alive would even recognize what they are, let alone how they worked." Selling as is.
