This is one of the favorite pieces from my collection. It is a triple matted, framed, sign and numbered artist proof 37/50 by renown Civil War Artist John Paul Strain entitled “You will soon see them tumbling back“. It shows one of the top generals of the Battle of Gettysburg and the Civil War, Winfield Scott Hancock, Commander of the Union Army 2nd Corps, along with his first division commander General John C Caldwell, evaluating the response during the second day battle at the Wheatfield in Rose Woods. Hancock ultimately sent troops quickly to fill a breach created by Union General sickles, halting a potential catastrophic Confederate onslaught and holding the day for theUnion. The artist did extensive research into the faces of his subjects, the topography as well as uniforms, horses etc. it is a magnificent depiction of the event on that day. Image of the lithograph is 15“ x 20“ and the overall size of the frame is 20“ x 24“, weighing approximately 10 pounds. It comes with a certificate of authenticity from Gettysburg Military Publishing. This is an absolutely excellent piece for any Civil War collector, or someone that appreciates the valor of the United States military.
