This is a leather bound “Company Descriptive Book”, for Captain Charles Melcher of Company B of the 167th Pennsylvania Infantry. The book has been protected by a plastic cover. It measures 15“ x 10 1/2“ with 50 pages, most imprinted at the top of the page. Examples are “list of commissioned officers “, “register of death “, “register of deserters “etc. There are incredible ink descriptions such as “died at Suffolk, Virginia, January 7, 1862 of cramps in stomach “, and “deserted same day he was mustered into service “. Melcher lists 20 men as deserters, and considering he only had 85 men to start with, he was in trouble! Overall the book is in good condition with nice bold ink entries
