HISTORICAL DETAILS. In relation to the issuance of this Emergency Banknote, the issuing Authority was - El BANCO DE ESPAÑA BILBAO on behalf of  Caja de Andrros y Monte de Piedad Municipal de Bilbao. Some of the Bank of Spain branches decided to issue banknotes to ease the monetary crisis that the Civil War caused in terms of stocks of Banknotes. There were 7 denominations issued by the Bilbao Branch - 5, 10, 25, 50, 100, 500 and 1000 Pesetas Banknotes. These banknotes were only circulated for about six months during the Spanish Civil War, and could not be used after the National Army occupied Bilbao in June 1937.

On the face of the note there is an ornate picture frame style border. At each corner is the denomination as ‘5’. The words El BANCO DE ESPAÑA BILBAO are at the top centre.  Text states - 'Pagará al portador CINCO pesetas' - All this means simply - The Bank of Spain Will pay the bearer Five Pesetas.  After this, the note is dated - BILBAO 1 de Enero de 1937. The note’s Serial Number is in Red at the upper right and lower left sides as 033240.   At the lower left printed diagonally is TIENE FONDOS BANCO DE ESPAÑA, BILBAO and signed underneath. At the centre right are the words POR EL BANCO DE VIZCAYA with 3 signatures underneath the titles from the left - EL DIRECTOR (Director) , EL CONTADOR (Accountant) and EL CAJERO (Cashier).

The reverse of the banknote has BANCO DE ESPAÑA at the upper left corner. Below in the left hand corner this is the denomination as ’5’ which is large in White reversed out of Blue in an octagonal frame. There is an octagonal shape within the rest of the note stretching to the far right of the note. The rest of the note is in a rectangular frame and depicts a Basque sheep farmer standing under a tree, with his sheepdog and herd behind him..

This old Emergency issue small change banknote has seen handling and some circulation, it has 2 central folds plus a few other smaller folds. There is some light staining to the reverse, some of which shows through to the face. It is a great example of a very collectible note from the Civil War period. Overall, the note grades almost Very Fine.

I ALWAYS COMBINE POSTAGE COSTS ON MULTIPLE WINS _ PLEASE DO NOT PAY FOR ITEMS UNTIL YOU RECEIVE MY COMBINED POSTAGE INVOICE IF YOU ARE BIDDING ON MORE THAN ONE ITEM!

IMPORTANT - All my items are sent to the UK from my current location in Italy by Certificated Airmail for safety reasons, and INTERNATIONAL BUYERS, please note that any item or group of items which totals more than £30 will have to be sent by insured delivery for the safety and security of your item - there can be I am afraid no exceptions to this.

Please note that as a matter of course I do not now post to some countries where the postal system seems to be unreliable. Therefore, those buyers from RUSSIA, CHINA, INDIA, BANGLADESH, PAKISTAN, INDONESIA, MALAYSIA, VIETNAM, SAUDI ARABIA, MEXICO, ISRAEL & CHILE who wish to bid on my notes will have to contact me first and be aware that any items won will be sent by chargeable INSURED TRACKABLE postage. This is because at least 30% of items sent to buyers in these locations in the last few years for some reason do not arrive. The cost of insurance will add about £10 to the cost of the item.

I always combine postage and shipping on more than one item won.  If you think my postage and shipping charges are unreasonable then please contact me before you make a bid. For full details of shipping and postage costs to UK and other European destinations and all other addresses Worldwide, please refer to the Payment Instructions below:-

PAYMENT: - Please pay through the eBay system using your preferred payment method.  In exceptional circumstances I may accept £, US$, € at current rates or a personal cheque drawn in £ on a UK registered Bank, please contact me first if you wish to pay this way.

Shipping/handling: UK and Europe:£2.49 for ordinary untracked Airmail or £6.30 for registered/insured (Necessary for all items or groups of items with a value exceeding £20). NB. Please do not pay until you receive my invoice, especially if you have won more than one item, as I always combine the postage packing and shipping costs, so that you save on postage. I do of course appreciate it if you pay quickly but I am sure you wouldn't want to be paying too much for postage. If you do overpay, I will usually refund you via the eBay system, before I send your item or items.

A note about feedback

I do not wait for you to leave Feedback for me like some sellers do, so Transactions will receive positive feedback soon after payment is made. I strive to earn 100% perfect 'five-star' scores from you, my customer. The star scores are very important because eBay uses them to determine the visibility of my items in search results. So, before you leave your Feedback for me, if anything about the transaction did not meet your expectations, please let me know and at least give me the chance to put things right, before leaving negative Feedback or contacting eBay.

Always contact me first before contacting eBay or opening a case, I will always help, I will block bidders who open cases without contacting me first!

PLEASE NOTE ALL ITEMS ARE NOW MAILED FROM MY CURRENT LOCATION IN ITALY, posted the same day that payment is received or the next working day after payment, if made at the weekend. When I am in the UK, I may post from there. Some deliveries may take longer than normal to arrive, this is not my fault, merely the result of the recent problems since March 2020, experienced within the International Postal System!

Although now, even though the International Postal system is almost back to normal again, there still can be the odd delay to some destinations.
