A superb Kilnhurst Old Pottery Tavern / Inn  ,marked 1 quart ale jug from the 19th century .

Kilnhurst Old Pottery situated just north of Rawmarsh, between Rotherham and Mexborough and established in 1746 .  Thought to be one of the oldest Yorkshire potteries.
In the 19th century took over making mugs and jugs for the inn trade ,which previously had been done in Bristol.  Using the Bristol type glaze on these items  .Huge amounts of the pottery were produced and I’m guessing huge amounts lost in the course of business.
Quite a small number were actually regulated by the trading standards of the day and stamped or tagged with a government code .
They were eventually superseded by the glass versions as they became cheaper and production ceased.

A good example of the marked 1 quart jug ,with low relief moulded body of a buff colour with a darker brown hi -lighted  top . Small chip to foot (See photo) Otherwise original.
