Condition:                 Rich tonal image, sharp and clean with light spotting to sky, photographer’s blind stamp on image bottom right corner, mount shows some light foxing/aging, mount corners bumped/chipped with one large chip at top left corner.

 

Other:                        Fine view  of the ruins of Furness Abbey, Cumbria in England’s Lake District by artist/photographer Alfred Pettitt, Keswick.  Pettitt was active from around 1860 through the 1880s with many of his images reproduced as postcards into the early 20th Century.  A full page advertisement for Pettitt Gallery with sample portrait of the author appears in the “Shepherd’s Guide,” by Daniel Gate in 1879.  It reads,
