FRENCH POCHOIR HOLIDAY CARD, c. 1920’s
Classic Original Art Deco Design!

P-18: Stunning original hand-colored greeting card with exceptionally bright original color! Pochoir required the adroit use of pigments and metallic inks applied by hand through finely cut stencils.  This card measures 151 x 120 mm (5 15/16 x 4 3/4”), folded.

A look through a “peephole” as depicted on this card - two children stand at the fireplace, illuminated by a candle, discovering the gifts (including a ball and stuffed toy animal) that have been left for them. Father Christmas, with his sack of toys, quietly slipping away adds to the delight of this greeting card!

This Pochoir Holiday Card was made in France, c. 1920’s. “MADE IN FRANCE” printed on the back.

This is an original, nearly 100 years old, not a reproduction, and its condition is excellent, as shown in the photos. The colors are particularly fresh and bright. The card is unused (blank inside) and without envelope.

The Pochoir Process was rejuvenated in France in the 1920’s during the Art Deco era. This expensive stencil color application technique pushed the color illustration processes for  books and prints to glorious new heights.  The hand application of layers of pigment created dazzling effects that the camera or printing press could not replicate.

This card comes with a Certificate of Authenticity.
