Translated 'Opus Magnum' means fantastic masterpiece and that's for sure one way to label this album. On the other hand it is not that original what the band produces on their record, because there are little new sounds in comparison with the two previous albums. 'Opus Magnum' contains (just like the former ones) a lot of Gregorian choirs, strings, trumpets, folk elements and Arabic influences. And again we also can hear the voice of Martin's wife Elena in a couple of songs and the surprise of the album is a very good clean voice by the master himself. In spite of that the sound is not very surprising the music sounds very well from the beginning till the end.
After all those years of silence surrounding Hollenthon I've still not heard a band like this at all and because of that the album is a real jewel and Hollenthon a unique band in the metal scene. One thing for sure is that I know this CD will end on a high spot in my year list of 2008, because it gives me a warm feeling of recognition.
