JPJ TOOLS SHEFFIELD  10" WOOD SPLITTING FROE  MADE IN SHEFFIELD from High Grade Spring Steel , is forged from one solid piece of material with the eye being formed on the end and one strengthening weld applied to close the eye. It has an approximately  10" ( 250mm ) long blade and approximately 35mm inner diameter to the eye.

It is used for splitting wood along the grain as opposed to sawing.   Once started , the split can be encouraged to grow down the grain of the wood by the action of tapping the back of the FROE and also rocking of the FROE in the split both sideways and widthways.   The advantage of this as opposed to sawing is that it shows up the true nature of the wood being worked.

In certain circumstances such as for chair / stool  legs a length of wood , without defects such as knots , is beneficial to the strength of the item being produced.

Our FROE is provided without a handle so that the end user can fashion to their own preference.

THIS LISTING IS FOR ONE FROE. THE TWO PICTURES ARE TO SHOW THE DIFFERENT ASPECTS OF THE TOOL
