Nouveau Dictionnaire des Passagers
[...Francois-Allemandet. Allemand-Francois. Published by Johann Leonhard Frifch; Leipzig, 1755. 9" x 5.5"]
Ancient, original vellum bound, dictionary from 1755! A French to German and German to French translation written entirely in blackletter gothic type!! The vellum is very worn and some of the pages are shaken from the binding, but all are attached and nothing is missing. Some pages have small chips and tears.  Previous owner stamped occasional pages and the end papers and wrote name on the exterior binding and title page. Stunning red and black typography, typical of German graphic design during this period. Illustrated with one copper plates frontispiece engraving.  A beautifully bound book and a fabulous collectors item! A wonderful piece of history!
