Spaceloft made by Aspen Aerogels

$6.36 Per Square Foot

You are buying Spaceloft AEROGEL mat by the linear foot.  It comes in rolls 57" wide and a thickness of .24 (6mm). We will cut it to the length you purchase. For example, if you purchase a quantity of 1, your item will measure 1 foot by 57 inches (1' x 4.75'). If you purchase a quantity of 15, your item will measure 15 feet by 57 inches (15' x 4.75') Your still only paying $6.36 per square foot for this product. By selling this product in the same manner that fabric stores sell their material, we hope this will help our customers understand exactly what they will be getting for their money. This Spaceloft is great for Crygenic temperatures of -460F to hotter temperatures of 390F.

Spaceloft is a fantastic insulator, touted as the best performing insulator on the market today. You can obtain an R-Value of R30.9 with a thickness of just three inches with this product. It has been used in the most extreme conditions on earth, by people climbing mount Everest and to protect vital components NASA sent into space. Spaceloft can be used in construction where space is at a premium and quality cannot be compromised.  Since the 1930's it has been too expensive and cost prohibitive to use for anything except projects with no budgetary constraints. My hope is that, by selling this Spaceloft at affordable cost, people will experience the best insulation in the world instead of just reading about it.

Spaceloft is a proven, effective insulator in Oil and Gas, Building and Construction, Aerospace, Automotive, Cold Chain and other industries requiring maximum thermal protection within tight space and weight constraints.

There are probably millions of uses for this type of insulation. But if you have a tight area to insulate and you need the greatest R-Value for the space. This is your product. You can make a super refrigeration or freezer shell with this insulation. It is Hydrophobic, which means it will not absorb water. So, moisture from condensation is not a problem.

Aspen Aerogels manufactures many types of Aerogel insulation for various temperatures. These insulating mats are made of different materials (fibrous glass, PET, Polyester, etc.) and are all impregnated with aerogel particles for insulation value. The materials the mats are constructed of dictates its temperature rating. Though the aerogel will withstand a wide range of temperatures alone, the fiberous materials supporting the Aerogel particles will only withstand the temperatures stated in the description (lighting a sample on fire thats only rated for 390F when the flame itself is 800F+ will inevitably cause the product to burn) . If you are interested in Aerogel mats that can withstand higher or lower temperatures, please visit out eBay store and see our other Aerogel listings.

I hope your as amazed with this product as I am. I am not affiliated with Aspen Aerogel and the Spaceloft product we are selling is New Surplus.

Shipping: Any length greater than 30 linear feet will be shipped in multiple packages. For example, if you purchase 50 linear feet you will receive two boxes of 25 linear feet. If you need one continuous cut, this large order will have to be freighted. Please contact us and we will be happy to provide an estimate of your freight shipping costs. Please be advised that eBay's shipping calculator is sometimes wrong and does not reflect actual shipping charged by freight carriers. We will be happy to ship via a carrier of your choice if you provide the details and set up your own shipping.

Some info from the web:

Despite the fact that we are now living in the 21st century, aerogel insulation seems like a material out of science-fiction. It is the lightest solid known, although by volume it is 99% air. It is breathable, but it doesn't absorb water. It is incredibly strong for its weight. But most importantly, it is a fantastic insulator.

Some specialty insulation companies are now producing aerogel products that can be used for building insulation, although the largest market for the material is still in industry. Aerogel insulation is also exciting because it provides good benefit with a thin profile. For instance, shipping-containers, which have a narrow width to begin with, can be insulated without giving up too much valuable space to attaching insulation to the walls.

A couple products are now available on the market, although their use is still constrained because of the relatively high cost of the material. Aspen Aerogels makes an aerogel blanket called Spaceloft. Aerogel is such a good insulator that a blowtorch on one side cannot light a match on the opposite side. While that is an extreme case, it demonstrates the effectiveness of the material. (And if you are a numbers geek, a typical aerogel insulation blanket has a thermal conductivity of 0.091 BTU-in/hr-sq.ft.-F at an ambient temperature of 32 degrees Fahrenheit, corresponding to an R-value of  R-10.3 per inch. That's nearly double the insulation value of the best rigid insulation boards currently available.)

Aspen Aerogels' Spaceloft Insulation, is a 57-inch wide roll of aerogel material available in 0.20 in. and 0.40 in. thickness. Spaceloft is a useful product for insulating existing walls in retrofit situations where it is important to minimize the amount of floor area lost to building up wall insulation. An old brick building can be a beautiful thing, but brick makes a poor insulator. Instead of building a new insulated wall against the existing wall that would be 4" thick (or more), a Spaceloft blanket covered by drywall can achieve similar energy-efficiency in a wall covering that is less than an inch thick.

Aspen Aerogels’ Spaceloft® is a flexible aerogel composite blanket designed for insulating buildings and apparel. With a thermal conductivity of 14 mW m-1 K-1, Spaceloft is approximately two and half times better insulating than Styrofoam®. Great for home insulation, winter clothing, science projects, and any application where thermal insulation is needed and space is at a premium. Maximum temperature is 390°F/200°C, density is 0.15 g cm-3 (2.45 oz/69 g per square foot).

Please Note: This product is very dusty. Aerogel blankets may generate dust when handled. Workplace exposures to all dusts should be controlled with standard industrial hygiene practices. Local exhaust should be the primary dust control method. Dry vacuuming is the preferred method for cleaning up dust. Because aerogel dust is hydrophobic, water is not an effective dust control agent. Unpack material in the work area. This will help to minimize the area where dust exposure may occur. Trimmed material should be promptly packed in disposal bags. Trims and offcuts may be reused in secondary applications. Scrap material should be packed for disposal. Avoid dust contact with eyes, skin and clothing and avoid breathing dust. Wash hands with soap and water after handling.

WORKING WITH SPACELOFT®

Synthetic amorphous silica is oleophilic, so it readily absorbs the oils from your skin. This characteristic is why synthetic amorphous silica is used in cosmetics as an anti-sheen agent. For worker comfort when working with Spaceloft® aerogel blanket insulation, we recommend safety eyewear, work gloves, long sleeves, and long-legged work clothes. Respiratory protection is recommended if dust exposures exceed occupational exposure limits. Aerogel dust is easily washed from the skin and clothing using soap and water.
