'This second collection of highly personal, intimate poems that are polished to a fine gloss, blend nature, history and community through the eyes of an intelligent mind and a matured spirit. The poems are accessible, although many-layered. Many express the author's attempt to come to terms with losses of the past, and the laying to rest of family. The title line, from a well-anthologized poem called "Survivors" takes place at graveside of a beloved aunt and speaks for a group of women "in the cold company of stones".."surviving to face the inscription." In another tone, is the witty parallel to the Little Red Hen in the piece called "And She Did," and poems written to the paintings of Matisse, Van Gogh, and Milton Avery...'
