ARTIST: MARY JENKS COULTER (1880-1966) (Mission Etching, CALIF CA) (CAPISTRANO MISSION, CALIFORNIA MISSION ETCHING, RARE PRINT LISTED EARLY CALIF IMPORTANT ETCHER) (Early California Artist, California Impressionist, Printmaker). "Born in Newport, KY on Aug. 30, 1880. Mary Jencques was a pupil of Duveneck at the Cincinnati Art Academy. After her marriage to Fred Coulter in 1902, she moved to Chicago where she studied a variety of crafts (weaving, bookbinding, jewelry, pottery) at the AIC and was the first curator of etchings and engravings at that school. Upon returning from a tour of Europe, she earned a philosophy degree from the University of Chicago. In 1915 her husband died and she came to California where she served as chairman of the arts-crafts jury for the PPIE. After that time she appears to have divided her time between the East Coast and West Coast. She was a pupil of Lionel Walden in Hawaii for two seasons and later of Charles Hawthorne at Cape Cod."

SIZE: aprox. 11.5x14.5 framed, aprox. 9.75x12.5 unframed, aprox. visible etching from front view 5.25x7.25 inches

MEDIUM: etching, pencil signed

CONDITION: In good vintage condition, etching print is bright and well kept. Has not been removed from or examined outside of frame. Frame has some wear to edges due to age.
