This beautiful Vasari bronze sculpture is of a Scholar/Philosopher nicely attired and holding a book in this left hand and some sort of tool in his right hand. Beautifully decorated with 22K gold gilt metal, pewter, and .800 silver overlays and mounted on a 2-tier alabaster base with four ormolu feet at the corners.

The piece is signed in the center back of his upper garment. Unfortunately the limited edition numbered brass medallion is missing from the base, however, it is guaranteed to be an authentic Vasari. This bronze is from a series of figures produced in limited edition including Crusader Knights, Swiss Guards, Musketeers, and others. 

Vasari's incredible work is not often offered for sale, is very well sought after and generally commands high prices. His artistic technique is of a Cellini method of fusing precious metals to a bronze base through a very difficult process. Vasari is a renowned master craftsman and his limited edition sculptures are considered to be enduring investments in art.

Measures 9 1/2" high, 3 1/8" wide (at feet) and is mounted on a 2-tier alabaster base measuring 2 5/8" square at the base. The piece appears to be in excellent condition although there appears to be some residue on the alabaster base from when the base was attached. We have not tried to clean this and are leaving this attempt to the next owner.
