An exceptionally rare large historical illuminated manuscript leaf! From a Dominican Breviary. This page was handmade between the late 13th and the early 14th centuries, and is written and illuminated on both sides. The script appears to be written by two hands in both textura and Gothic rotunda. Gothic rotunda was reserved for summa - learned manuscripts, scientific, juridicial and theological treatises. Latin text features ornamentation of blue and red lettering, and many delicate red and purple intial decorations.
Leaf measures 14" x 10.5". A wonderful historical relic!
