Welcome to Antiques & Moore!

This listing is for a nice antique American Sterling Silver Art Nouveau Period free-form ornate match safe/vesta case, c. 1900.

This attractive match safe has an elaborate chased and engraved design with swags and scrolls on the top and bottom section of the front side and has an undecorated reverse. The shape of the design is very unusual with scalloped non-matching edges. Case has a match striker on the bottom. The hinge is in good working condition and the lid opens and closes tightly.

The case is in good overall condition although it does have normal signs of wear. The front of the case is excellent, however, the back has minor signs of wear and the edges have a few dents and dings from having been carried for normal use. This was certainly an item that was enjoyed and used by its original owner. It has great original patina and a beautiful 3-letter monogram "C J L" engraved in convex cartouche on front.

Marked "Sterling, 925 Fine" with old trademark stamp of Unger Brothers before and after Sterling mark on front interior lip.

 Measures 2 3/4" long, 1 1/2" wide and 3/8" deep. Weighs 25 grams.
