In a world where so much is designed to be disposable,

a fine art collection offers lasting value.

ADVICE FOR BUYERS OF FINE ART

Art Buyers need to know what they are, or are not, getting when buying art. Original art has been created by the hand of the artist. This includes paintings and printing plates or silk screens created by the hand of the artist. Digitally printed art, and offset lithographs, are not original art, only reproductions of art and have little value.

Original works of art are not normally purchased for decoration, such as to match the carpeting, drapes, etc. Each piece of original art should be viewed as a person and thus stand alone without regard for being a part of the decorating. Each piece of art should be framed to complement the art and hung on the wall wherever you want to view it. Any style of art may hang next to whatever other piece of art you want.

When inviting guests to your home, you don’t provide them with color samples so they match the  sofa or other decor. Each of them stands alone as should each piece of fine art you hang on the wall. Many designers and art dealers are recommending art to compliment the decor. This should not be how you select and hang fine art. Each piece should stand alone and be enjoyed accordingly.

HERMITAGE COMMERATIVE SUITE

The "Hermitage Commemorative Suite" consists of two (2) serigraphs printed in 80 colors on heavy Coventry rag paper. These two prints were issued to commemorate the huge exhibition for Mihail Chemiakin held in October 1995 at the Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg. The titles are as follows:

Woman with Pomegranate
Masquerade in St. Petersburg

Both prints are in mint condition and have not been framed, mounted nor exhibited. The image size of these gorgeous prints is 33" X 25" plus full margins and they are pencil signed and numbered by the artist. The sheets are 39" X 31". The edition size is 130 and this is a set with identical numbers 120/130 each.

Note pictures of Chemiakin receiving the “State Prize of Russia for Arts & Letters” from President Boris Yeltsin. President Yeltsin came to America to present this prize to Chemiakin and not to meet with President Clinton. Other pictures are as follows:

Chemiakin with President Gerald Ford
President Mickhail Gorbachov
Actor Sidney Poitier

Casanova Sculpture in St. Marks Square by Chemiakin

Chemiakin books volumes I & II plus a few museum catalogues

This is a very rare suite and it is especially difficult to obtain a set with matching numbers. List price is $7,500.00 for the two (2) pieces. A separate picture of "Masquerade in St. Petersburg" shows what the full sheets look like. Do not confuse the serigraphs of Chemiakin with his less expensive lithographs.   Chemiakin's serigraphs are truly master works, representative of his best work in the graphic medium. While he has created well in excess of 200 editions of lithographs, he has created only 9 editions of serigraphs. His lithographs usually have 12 to 18 colors, while his serigraphs have 75 to 100 colors.

Anyone wanting to own works by Mihail Chemiakin will find his serigraphs are by far the most beautiful and valuable in the graphic medium and have very limited availability. His serigraphs are generally five to six times as many square inches of image size as do his lithographs. The beauty of this piece is a result of Chemiakin using several techniques emulating the different effects achieved by painters over centuries using brushstrokes, sandpaper scrapes, charcoal or grease-paper impressions, stamping and crumpling wet paper, etc. His strong, thick colors are ideally suited to serigraphy yielding a distinctive beauty resulting from a wide spectrum of textural effects and areas of subtle color variations.

Mihail Chemiakin is one of the foremost international artists of our time. A quote from the Robb Report (Jan. 1995) states "so great are his talents that he is one of the few artists working today who sets the standard by which all other contemporary art is measured".  He has earned 5 honorary doctorates. The Hermitage Museum held an exhibition in Oct. 1995 which had a 7 volume catalog printed for it.
