This listing is for a beautiful antique Shell Cameo brooch carving of Diana, goddess of the hunt, mounted in a lovely 10K yellow gold filigree mounting, c. 1900. 

Stunning carving of Diana with classic Roman features and intricate details carved in high relief. The cameo is fitted into a wide 10K yellow gold mounting decorated with filigree and four stylized flower/leaf designs (one on each side) and a rope border around outside rim. 

 Both the cameo and mounting are in excellent condition with no noted damage or repairs. Closure has safety catch for extra security. Stamped 10K on closure.

Measures 2" high and 1 1/2" wide. 

Diana, known as the goddess of the hunt and protector of wild things, was the maiden sister of Apollo and was also known as the moon goddess. Characteristics of Diana are the crescent moon on the brow, a bow, a quiver of arrows and hunting hounds (rarely found). Diana is probably depicted in a greater variety of ways than any other cameo subject and is generally carved as a beautiful woman with elaborate detail.s
