The HatchWay Attic Stair Cover saves energy in two ways. 

• It greatly reduces air leakage through the attic access door.  In the winter time, without an air tight cover in place, warm air rises and leaks out through the attic access door.  As a result, cold air is drawn in through lower parts of the house to replace the warm air.  In the summer, without an air tight cover in place, hot attic air is easily drawn in through the attic access door.  Air sealing the door with the HatchWay; cover greatly reduces the air leakage in both winter and summer.
  
  
• The cover adds a both a layer of polyester insulation and the highly reflective material, ARMA FOIL™, to help keep heat in during the winter and heat out during the summer.  These components reduce the conductive and radiant heat that otherwise is lost or gained through that door.

1. Determine which sized kit you need.  Measure the width and length of the opening above the pull down stair's frame.  Common widths are 22" or 25" and the common length is 54-56".  Estimate the height that the stairs extend above the attic floor when it is folded up in the stowed position.  The 8" tall kit works on most stairs.  The 15" tall kit might be necessary if your stairs fold three or more times.

2. Starting at one corner staple the black band to the inside of the rough framed box.  This is usually a 2x6 box not the 1x4 box frame attached to the stairs.

3. Check the cover to ensure that it is installed correctly and functions properly.  Make any adjustments as required.

4. From the attic side, apply a small bead of foam or caulk between the HatchWay Cover and the 2x6 wood framing to create an air seal between the cover and the frame.  Allow time for the sealant to cure before using the access door.

5. You are finished!  Use the zipper to open and close the cover when entering the attic.
