On their full-length debut, Ultrababyfat singer/songwriters Michelle Dubois and Shonali Bhowmik show a penchant for the same type of edgy alt-pop that once made Veruca Salt into critic faves, with infectious songs like "Twist" and "Bend On" that will undoubtedly endear them to the alt-rock crowd. "TCBA" tries its damnedest to make "doo doo doo doo" pop cool again, but ultimately falls apart after failed attempts at indie rock dissonance. It's at times like these -- apparently searching for an original sound to call their own -- that this Atlanta-based quartet sounds like the relative novices they are. But for the most part, Silver Tones Smile shows a promising band almost ready for alt-rock's big leagues. ~ Bret Love
