This listing is for a lovely Meiji Period (1868-1912) Japanese Satsuma porcelain gilt and enameled miniature teapot or sake pot with bamboo handle. This teapot is painted with polychrome enamels embellished with elaborate gold decoration in a floral design with birds on the upper body with a "diaper" band around the center body and just below the top opening. Teapot sits on three short feet and has minimal crazing. Marked with unidentified stamp.

Measures 1 3/4" high (to top of lid), 3 3/4" high (with handle upright) and has an an overall width of 3 3/4". Weighs approximately 6 ounces.

This miniature teapot is in excellent Estate condition with no noted flaws. The wicker handle is also in excellent condition although I am not sure if the wire attached to the handles is correct or not.

Satsuma is a creamy earthenware often decorated with Japanese figures with expressive facial features. This ware was generally created for the export market of the mid-19th Century to cater to Western markets.
