This listing is for a lovely vintage Sterling Silver deep bowl in the engraved FAIRFAX pattern made by the William Durgin Silver Company. The Fairfax pattern of flatware was issued in 1910. Hollow ware pieces are normally found plain without the engraved pattern found on these pieces. The design features an elongated octagonal paneled body with an engraved swag of flowers and foliage on each panel and engraved design around upper edge. Engraved with fancy 3-letter monogram "M R S" within center medallion. Marked with the Durgin trademark stamp and "Sterling, 44 Z, 10 In., Grogan Company". All Durgin silver is excellent quality and is highly desired and bowl is unusual with the engraved design.
Measures 2" high and 10" in diameter. Weighs 525 grams.
This beautiful bowl is in very good to excellent Estate condition with no noted flaws and reflecting only minor signs of normal wear. There is one very faint ding in the bottom center mentioned for accuracy although it is barely visible.
The Durgin Company operated in Concord NH from 1853-1931 when they moved their manufacturing to the Gorham Silversmiths factory in Providence RI in 1931. Durgin had been sold to Gorham in 1905. The Grogan Company operated in Pittsburgh PA from 1906-1960's and were both jewelers and silversmiths.
