Dating from the late 1800s/early 1900s this is an exquisite antique French chateau portiere curtain that is a wonderful hand made confection.

Perfect for any period maison it has taken on a soft old tea coloured hue and it is perfectly chateau chic.

A mix of embroidered filet lace and crochet work the bottom edge is trimmed with gorgeous crochet ball trim.

The central embroidered filet lace panel has a rose vignette, the top sides border has applique crochet flowers and scrolled leaves, the base and lower sides is a wonderful array of acanthus leaf scrolls and flowers all in heavyweight linen threads in that superb soft warm hue.

The bottom edge is a mixture of hand knotted tassel fringes and cascading crochet balls.

The top still has brass curtain rings in place for hanging.

Length 3 metres

Width 1 metre 50cms

All in wonderful condition and perfect for any chateau inspired maison.

This heavyweight confection weighs 2.25 kilos

I have not laundered this and have left it just as I found it. There are a couple of brown marks at the base but they will lift with laundering.

All the items in my listings, unless described otherwise, are either vintage or antique.  They have all had a 'past' life, a history to tell - and this inevitably affects their condition through use and handling. I do my best to make my descriptions as accurate as possible but please do not bid if you are looking for pristine items; you will not find them in my auctions! However, if you are as passionate as me about beautiful time-worn treasures with a history and full  faded grandeur then I hope you will enjoy looking through my treasures as much as I enjoy 'truffling' for the finds.
