Magnetite

Magnetite Information:
Magnetite is a beautiful gemstone and, because of its eye appeal, quite suitable for use in jewelry pieces. It is a complex form of Iron Oxide and often found with the chemical formula Fe2+Fe3+2O4.

While resembling Hematite, Magnetite is different. This delightful item can be distinguished from Hematite by using a magnet. Magnetite is attracted by (to) a magnet while genuine Hematite shows little or no attraction to a magnet. If the jewelry piece looks like Magnetite or Hematite and is itself a magnet, then that piece is probably Synthetic Ceramic Barium-Strontium Ferrite as offered in our lot # 122596480790 .

This same design ring made out of non-magnetic Hematite is offered in our lot # 381021148096 .

Every fine jewelry collection should have a representative example of Magnetite and this is a beautiful, eye-catching piece.

Colors:
The colors of Magnetite come from incidental metals included during its formation. Hematite is generally Black to Brownish-Black, often polished to a metallic luster.

Important Note about Color: The actual color and lightness or darkness of the item will vary probably from what is displayed on your monitor. There are many reasons that can cause this visual situation, One of the more important reason is the difference between transmitted light color (such as light shining through a gemstone), color generation simulations and adjustments (such as your monitor) and reflected light (light bouncing off objects). Add to this each individual’s personal color sensitivities along with variances in ambient (surrounding) light sources used when the photo was taken as well as those where you are looking at the stone. You should expect that the actual item shading and coloring will vary from what you see on any monitor or printed piece.

Sources:
Magnetite is found throughout the world.

Sources Note:
Due to current political conditions, all imports (including gemstones) from some countries are not permitted under United States law. In accordance with the law, none of the gemstones offered by CAB-FineJewelry are known to be from these countries. CAB-FineJewelry does not knowingly purchase, trade, sell or giveaway goods from any country embargoed by the United States of America. As individuals we may not agree with some of the laws of our great country. However, rather than breaking the law, we choose to work toward changing these laws in an orderly and legal manner and encourage you to do the same.

Care:
Magnetite should be cleaned using lukewarm, mild, soapy water and rinsed with the same temperature water. Dry thoroughly to avoid rust formation. Avoid hot temperature as well as sudden changes of temperature. As with all fine jewelry, remove before doing any type of physical work. Traditional gemstone procedure of storing in soft cloth away from other articles of jewelry hold true, too. Ultrasonic cleaners and steam cleaners should never be used.

Lobster & Spring Clasps
These clasps both have springs as an integral part of their mechanism. Should a clasp stop working, I suggest a very quick (light) spray of a lubricant such as WD-40 and then gently moving the clasp open to close a few times to allow the spring mechanism to function again.
