This is a Yankee No. 2101 brace made by North Brothers Mfg. Co. of Philadelphia. It is well known by most woodworkers that the earlier ones are one heck of a fine brace.

This early “YANKEE” brace is mechanically perfect with a smooth spinning head with just a light spin it rotates smoothly on ball bearings with no wobble. The chuck spins like a Swiss watch and the light clicking of the spring can be heard. The unique features of these braces include: a ratchet case that is moisture and dust proof; hardened and tempered steel pawls; a push button ratchet selector; chuck jaws that accept ½" diameter round shanks and 5/8" diameter tanged bits; and handles made of hard rubber or composite material. The heavy duty tool steel jaws are unbuggered and lock in tightly round or tapered shanks. The ball bearing chuck prevents wear on moving parts and allows smooth wobble free spinning action. It has the hard rubber like head and center grip that is in perfect shiny condition. The knurling on the chuck is crisp and not buggered up. On the chuck is NORTH BROS. MFG. CO. PHILA. PA.
