1 of a number of antique enamel / snuff / Staffordshire / Bilston boxes I am currently selling, all original and interesting, some are in better condition than others, please see all the photo's for condition as well as reading the full description of the item.
Please take a look at my other items
.

Here is a very nice enamel box if ever there was one. Georgian era for sure.. 18-19th Century the enamel on copper box.
As you can see its a short upright rectangle shape with  a slight domed lid with a pale blue ground with hand painted orange black and purple stripes as well as a black fine squiggly line going thru a leaf like simple pattern on the corners ..all meeting at the top.
The base is the only part with issues.. its chipped and cracked out down to the copper beneath...see the bottom of the box for the only damage.
The hinged lid frame is base metal and has a small wavy line decoration.
The lid simply hinges up and the inner catch is good.
Its white enamel inside the base and a nice pink enamel inside the lid...which has also got some old discoloured cotton wool in it....to keep the glass bottle from moving about.
So this box measures just over 1 and 5/8ths inch tall x 7/8ths inch wide x 1/2 inch deep.....the frame sticks out further all the way around...see the pictures.
So once you have opened the lid you see the most delicate clear cut glass facetted stopper stuck up.... this bottle does lift out of the base.
The bottle could be for perfume - scent - smelling salts ...it has some orangy residue left inside.. I have NOT tried to clean it..its just as it came in.
The bottle... its free blown and stlightly tapered ..a wider shoulder with a ground and polished base... a flat topped mouth and the ground glass stopper.
The bottle has been fine engraved as well with small IIII marks down the narrow sides so you can grip the bottle... as well as a FLOWER design on the back and two intials
M*W at the front with a FLOWER above and below.
The stopper is stuck in and I have NOT attempted to take it out.. if you turn this it could well snap off the stopper or worse snap off the bottle neck.. and that would be terrible.. so I have left it alone.
 Its really fabulous.
I am into old bottles.. as per my ebay name -
diggerlee - and I often buy free blown Georgian scent bottles ..see my other listings.. this bottle is really FABULOUS and it has ONLY survived in this great un damaged condition due to it being in this enamel box...which is of the same period.
So 2 rare items for you in one go.
The bottle is 1 and a quarter inch tall overall with the stopper in situ x 3/4 inch wide at the base.... the bottle is tapered on the edge depth and not from the base to the shoulder not that.. so the bottom edge is 5/16ths inch wide x 7/16ths inch at the shoulder width....the bottle is 17/16ths inch tall without the stopper in it.
I wonder who
M*W was ? ...someone lucky enough to be born in the Georgian period of a wealthy family as this item would have only belonged to someone of the Aristocracy families living in a grand country house estate such as " Downton Abbey "
